Whenever a company wants to bring a new product, service, or experience to market, it is designing its business. When done well, Business Design creates offerings that produce value for both the organization and its customers.
At BRAINS & HEARTS, we combine design thinking with traditional business consulting to support organizations in creating market growth and competitive advantage. We co-create innovation delivered in the form of business. We like to measure innovation according to its ROI.
We use best practices successfully implemented in Silicon Valley to move cost-effectively at the speed of the market. Our methods include Business Model Canvas, Lean methods, qualitative and quantitative research, prototyping and lean market validation.
Business Design is the next wave to help organizations address the disruption caused by startups. Every major business and industry are one startup away to be put out of business or at least lose its competitive advantage. The way it has always been, the law of the land is adapt or perish, except now it’s a lot faster.
We helped companies deal with their internal processes to prevent hindering innovation, applied corporate entrepreneur programs, design new ventures, and business offerings together with their employees and furthermore helped launch new digital products to the marketplace.
With more than ten years of experience as an agency, we use design thinking methods to identify your customers’ wants and needs and what is important to their everyday life. We want to help your organization tap into new markets, expand your products into services and experiences and implement sustainable business models.
“INNOVATION DOESN’T MEAN TO PRODUCE SOME VISION IN AN EMPTY ROOM, BUT INSTEAD PROTOTYPE AND VALIDATE YOUR CONCEPT BEFORE BRINGING NEW BUSINESS IDEAS TO MARKET”
DIGITAL BUSINESS DESIGN JOURNEY
BUSINESS MODEL DESIGN
By exploiting existing business models, a short-term competitive advantage can be created, but ultimately markets mature, competition intensifies and turbulence increases. What was considered innovative and new, eventually becomes a commodity. For this reason, new sources of growth must be explored, and new answers to enduring success must be found.
In a series of workshops, we guide ideas through an innovation process to co-create business models that will later be quickly tested into the market. Right from an early stage, ideas and business models undergo through constant refinement under our supervision. We use a visual approach and different tools grounded in Design Thinking.
LEAN MARKET VALIDATION
Leveraging from the lessons learned by startups for the last five years and Lean Startup methodologies, we can help you test ideas in a cost-effective way, even before they are implemented or even taken to market. WithLean Methodologies is possible to quickly learn if there is a product/market fit for your business. Using short iterations to test and learn, we build products not only that people want, but that are willing to pay for to get it. Liking a product doesn’t necessarily mean paying for it.
With a series of workshops and sessions, we consult you and help you keep track of your hypothesis and experiments using a Lean Validation Board; this helps you have an overview of the whole process. We can validate several assumptions at a time and assist you along the way.
The Lean Validation process becomes very useful when adapted to the enterprise. The way products are being introduced to the market are still based one linear processes from the 50’s manufacturing model. In a faster pace connected world, it is necessary for large organizations to review how to optimize these processes. There is no more time for lengthy and cumbersome processes anymore if they are to survive the digital revolution. Instead of a linear process, we find the market and customers first, then develop products and solutions in small iterations. This process proves to be faster and more cost-effective.

We do the heavy lifting and do streets interviews, online surveys, landing pages, social media, Google AdWords campaigns and anything that will help prove your assumptions and validate the market.
Our aim is to create great products that deliver on larger strategic and sustainable business objectives. By using rapid prototyping techniques, we can visualize and explore digital products before they are built. It gives our clients and us a cost-effective way of testing the experience with potential users.
Prototypes are used extensively during the validation process. It helps us learn about the users, but also helps us craft the user experience.
Later on, our learnings and evolutions of the initial prototypes help us significantly in the product development. The prototypes go through several stages of development starting with rough paper visualization, to wireframing, to hi-fidelity clickable dummies. Sometimes prototypes need to be fully working when is necessary to test sophisticated functionality. This will apply mostly to products with challenging technical features.
Business Design combines traditional business consulting methodologies with design thinking methods to create sustainable business models based on the human-centred design principles. In a business design jam we improvise without extensive preparation just like musicians do in a jam session. The idea is to come up with products/services grounded in feasible business models in just a couple of days.

We organise this Hackathon event with coders and others involved in software and hardware development, including UX designers, UI designers and project managers, collaborating intensively to create working software prototypes over a weekend. It has a competition format and the winners gets an award.
The disruption caused by Start-ups can be felt in pretty much every industry around the world. Traditional companies are still looking for answers how to respond to stay in relevant and in business. While some just prefer to do nothing, others are heavily investing in incubators and accelerators in the hope that it will give them a new competitive advantage. We believe the answer lies inside the organisation and not outside. The internal knowledge of employees can be harvested and channeled to create new business ventures aligned with the culture and corporate strategy of the organisation.
“THE ONLY WRONG MOVE WHEN SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS IN THE NEW ECONOMY IS NOT TO MAKE ANY MOVE AT ALL. THIS IS MORE THAN DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION, ITS BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION. ADAPT OR PERISH”.
